Captain's Blog .... A Busy Couple of Weeks Jim ..... Part Two !!

The Summer Ball on Friday 3rd July was well attended with about 90 members, guests and friends present. A super meal was put before us and the Haleys entertained us all night long. Well done House Chair June Miller for organising a great night out.

There was only one disappointment ...... we were told Elvis was in the building but he refused point blank to perform. Never mind, there's always Wink at New Years Eve Dance to look forward to !!!!

Eventually got to bed at about 2.30am ...... and up at 5.45am ready for the day at the Half Way House on Captain's Saturday..... couldn't sleep, too much going through my head. All the planning and hard work has come to today. Cate and I leave home at 8.15am, and would you believe we get a puncture on arrival at the half way house !

Panic setting in, Rod Rawson comes to the rescue and was brilliant sorting me out. He took the car into Grantham for a new tyre after sorting out the beer. Gotta get your priorities right !

Cate, Clair Bailey & Jane Harris were absolute stars for all their hard work in doing the buffet & drinks. About 70 pairs went through and were hopefully well fed and watered ! Got to do it all again tomorrow !!

Early to bed we thought but my brother Chris was a bit late travelling up from Dorset to stop and he wanted a beer when he arrived.......... so we did and it was about 11.00pm when we got back from the village club.

Captain's Sunday morning arrived and we were up bright and early out at the Half Way House again for serving a BBQ for the members delight. Rod was there again as were Clair, Jane, Tim & Tracey.

A long day followed but everyone kept at it and how grateful am I for the fantastic support given to me over the 2 days.

Thanks also to all the members and guests (including these two likely lads who look like they've had too much sun and orange juice ..... !!) who contributed greatly over the two days, throwing £622 in the GOSH dosh bucket !!

The evening presentation had an excellent attendance to see all the prizewinners including the in-form John (Vice Captain) Booth who won the Sunday medal with a 72-9-63. To top it all off, a superb buffet was provided by Mandy and her team. It capped off a great week and weekend and culminated in an absolutely fantastic amount for the Great Ormond Street Hospital charity of about £3,600 from the Challenge, raffle and the entry fees. Well done All !!!  Cate and I are really chuffed and can't thank everyone enough.

I'm finishing this now and off to get some well earned shut eye .......!!  Looking forward to the rest of July and the next edition.
