Birstall Ladies Exchange Day

On Tuesday 10th June, Lady Captain, Linda Tytherley arranged a ladies exchange day with Birstall Golf Club. Twenty-five Stoke Rochford lady members took up the opportunity and met together at 10am. They were welcomed by June Hendry, one of Birstall’s lady members. They had bacon baps and coffee before playing an individual stableford competition.

The ladies thought the course was in excellent condition, very pretty and quite tricky in places. In warm and sunny weather with a slight breeze they all enjoyed their games and sat down afterwards, in a delightful clubhouse, to a delicious three course meal.

There were lots of prizes and these were awarded to Norma Varley, Sheila Dugmore, Judy Rawson, Kema Genda and Phillippa Smith in the silver division, and to Ruth Greenfield, Grace Helstrip, Jacqui Francis, Roni Proctor and Carol Hamilton in the bronze division. Norma Varley was the overall winner with 35 points. They all had a great day out!

Thirty- six Birstall ladies came to play Stoke Rochford course on the same day and had a fabulous time as well. Their Lady Captain Di Batterham sent her sincere thanks to Richard and Mandy for excellent catering, to Judith Ramsden for her friendly welcome and to the Club Management for agreeing to the exchange.

Ladies Playing Away !!

The Lady Captain Linda organised a break away for the ladies who wished to join her at Hill Valley Golf and Country Club during June. Fourteen ladies went away and enjoyed the two beautiful and challenging courses that Hill Valley had to offer.

We arrived on Sunday lunchtime to have a coffee and sandwich before playing either 9 or 15 holes in the afternoon in very blustery conditions. It was hard to find the golf balls on the fairways as there were a vast amount of leaves, twigs and in some cases largebranches around that had been blown down in the winds.

We had an enjoyable evening meal, it was a good job there were not many people around, we seemed to have picked quite a quiet few days, as it cannot be said that we were very quiet at all. The wine was flowing very nicely !!

We woke up on Monday to see that the greenstaff had done a tremendous job in trying to clean up all the debris from the day before. We played an 18 hole stableford competition that day on a bring and win basis, so even those of us who did not score very well all received a little prize. Again a very raucous evening was enjoyed, starting off with champagne and nibbles courtesy of the Lady President, a nice meal and much laughter.

Tuesday dawned and we played the shorter couse in a stableford team format, where we divided into two teams and totalled up the points of each team and the end of the 18 holes. The winning team was captained by June Miller and the seven of them took home the money.

A thoroughly enjoyable few days and our thanks go to Madame Captain Linda for all her hard work to orgainse the break and all of us when we were there.
