Captaining the Lincolnshire Ladies Vets Golf Association(LVLGA) in 2015 has given me great enjoyment through meeting and playing with ladies throughout Lincolnshire, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire and Norfolk.
The LVLGA met for the first time in November 1963 at Woodhall Spa and has grown from strength to strength. To date we have around 450 members.
We hold Spring and Autumn Open Competitions and run scratch and handicap matches. The Spring Open this year was held at South Kyme with over 200 Vets entering. Unfortunately the catering facilities could only cope with 160 so regretfully a ballot was held. The Autumn meeting is at Market Rasen.
It was with some trepidation that I took on the Vice Captaincy of the LVLGA in November 2013 but I was assured that there was nothing that I could not cope with. Come January 2014 I soon realised what my Vice Captain duties were and I was busy contacting dozens of club Secretaries and Pros asking whether their clubs would enjoy the honour of hosting an LVLGA event in 2015. Most were extremely helpful considering it an honour to host an event.
There were A and B team matches to arrange choosing venues in the opposite direction to the previous years to give all members a change of venue and travelling distance. The Vets Captains of the other counties were contacted for agreement.
An early Spring match against the Senior County Men is held each year, Cleethorpes being the venue this year. It resulted in an excellent win for the ladies, the men are seeking revenge next year!
My Vice Captain is Jackie Maconachie from Grimsby and she has arranged all the fixtures for 2016.
Being the LVLGA Captain is an honour and I have enjoyed many rounds of golf at different courses and made many new friends. Supporting the Captain is a strong committee and we meet at Woodhall Spa throughout the year. I can truly recommend anyone over the age of 55 and wishing to play ouside of their own club to join our happy band of lady golfers who extend warm friendship to all.
To join please contact the LVLGA secretary Mrs Bev Cox on 01526 352565.
