The 10:00 shotgun start was briefly in danger of being delayed due to mist but luckily gave way within a few minutes to a glorious spring day with warm sunshine, blue skies & a very gentle breeze, amazing for the 3rd week in February!! Thank you Simon & Karen for organising that. Thank you also to Gareth & his team for maintaining and delivering our course in such great condition, the warmer weather in the last few days has encouraged growth on the greens and they putted well with a nice easy pace.
19 teams took part in the Am-Am competition played off the traditional 3/4 handicap allowance rather than the more modern 90%, and generally the teams rose to the challenge with 16 / 19 teams beating the par score of 72. It was great to see so many Ladies & Juniors playing, alongside some long standing Club Members dusting off their swings as they recover from illness. Returning to the Clubhouse there were many old friends present and they along with the players lined up outside to witness the ceremonial drives by your new Captains Mr Simon Mulvey & Mrs Karen Rawson heralding the start of the new season. The competition to guess the finishing location of the two drives was won by Carole Hamilton & Rod Rawson, all proceeds split between the Captain's charities..
Karen & Simon then welcomed all players, explaining a little about their respective charities for the year, and presented prizes to the winning teams, followed by an excellent sandwiches & chips buffet provided by Tracy & Andy.
