Friday 31st May
Stoke played Waltham Windmill on a blustery but dry, warm evening. Foursomes format, all games playing 18 holes, team aggregate score to decide the result.
First match was Matt Owen and Adam Footitt, fresh from his winning at the Captain’s Away Day at Coxmoor earlier in the day. A tough match ended in a 3 down defeat for the pair.
Second pair was captain Paul Knapp & Steve Cullington. An up and down game ended up all square with Paul & Steve winning 17 and 18 to get a half.
At the back was Craig Hallam & Niall Doubleday who were steadily building a lead and after 16 were 4 up. However, they lost 17 to bring the whole match level.
Their last hole was halved in 4s with Craig sinking a decent length putt to put the match into extra holes.
Craig & Niall were picked to play the extra holes and a superb tee shot by Niall down the first left a wedge for Craig who found the green. Two solid putts were good enough to win the game against a 5 from the Waltham pair.
A great result for the Stokies and many thanks to the lads from Waltham who contriibuted to a match played in a great spirit. They left the clubhouse at about 9.15pm for a 2 hour drive home !!!!
