Introduction of Category 5 & 6 Handicap Allowances in SRGC Gents Competitions

Your Handicapping Committee has discussed the possibility of opening up SRGC Gents Competitions to Category 5 & Category 6 Members, these new categories introduced in 2018 allow Gents to hold a handicap allowance up to 54.

Stoke Rochford Golf Club is committed to being an open and inclusive club, actively encouraging players of all abilities to compete in both social and competitive golf, and we hope the new categories will encourage more players to take up golf as a sport, join a local club and fully participate in club competitions. Whilst it may take many months or even years for existing SRGC Gents Members to move up into Category 5 and ultimately into Category 6, in preparation for any new Members who decide to join SRGC we have decided to immediately open up a limited set of Gents competitions to the new categories. This can be used as an active selling point when promoting SRGC.

IMPACT : Competition Handicap allowances up to 54 will be allowed in two subsets of Gents competitions :-

  1. Monthly Midweek Stablefords (6 competitions from April to September)
  2. Monthly SATURDAY Medals & Stablefords (7 competitions from April to October)

Other competitions may be opened up on an adhoc basis if there is some potential benefit to SRGC. Your handicapping committee is also looking into the possibility of introducing multiple Divisions into more of our existing competitions.

Note that any new Members still need to submit 3 properly authorised cards for review by the Handicapping Committee before they are allocated a Competition Handicap allowing them to play in club competitions.

We hope Members will embrace this decision.
