SRGC feature article in extensive local press coverage

Many of you may have already seen this either on various websites or in the hardcopy newspapers, if not follow the links below to read the article (same article on each website).

The article was developed after a meeting between a local freelance journalist, our Chairman Adrian Stannard & myself. We believe this is a great way to reach a lot of people and showcase what we're doing currently, also further articles may be commissioned in future to highlight other activities at the Club.

Golf restart date sweepstake winner

Only one person chose Wednesday 13th May as the restart date for golf, lucky winner of the 40% share equalling £142 is Barry Mitchell, well done Barry who has now very kindly donated a proportion of his winnings to the Club to be used for some beneficial purpose as we see fit, thank you Barry.

Two other major winners also of course are our Captains Charities, a fabulous total of £218 will be split between you both to go towards those charities, St Barnabas & Marie Curie for James, and Diabetes UK for Mags.

Well done everyone, thank you so much for contributing.

Please stay safe and we hope to see you all soon.

Roger Green

Tuesday Winter Series Order of Merit Champion

Sadly the 5th round of our Tuesday Winter Series Open Rollups was cancelled due to COVID-19. Competition was ceratainly tight for the OOM 1st prize of a £200 voucher to be spent in the SRGC Pro Shop.

Under the rules of the competition, as 1 round was cancelled the scoring reverts to the best 3 from 4 rounds, although this didn't influence the final outcome so

Stephen Eaves from Hinckley Golf Club is therefore our 2019-20 OOM Champion.

Photos of Stephen with his OOM prizes will be published as soon as possible.

Top ten OOM placings can be seen here.

We look forward to resuming golf at SRGC and across the country in the coming weeks, meanwhile, stay safe, follow the guidelines and keep honing your short game in the back garden.

England Golf Announcement 23.3.20

Golf courses must close

England Golf guidance

Following on from the Prime Minister’s statement tonight (23 March), golf clubs and golf courses in England must now close.

It is England Golf’s position that this deeply regrettable, but highly necessary and responsible course of action must be implemented with immediate effect and be maintained until further notice.

The government has identified an urgent need to introduce new restrictions on public life and on non-essential businesses opening their doors.

This has been done to limit the spread of the coronavirus and relieve the growing pressure on our National Health Service.

Keeping golf courses open is simply no longer compatible with the updated policy of government which is designed to save lives in a time of national emergency.

The health and wellbeing of the nation is the only consideration that matters at this moment in our history.

These are incredibly testing times for the country. The golf industry cannot be shielded from the economic and social ramifications caused by this temporary shutdown of normal life.

We would like to assure the golfing community that England Golf staff will continue to work remotely with all affiliated golfers, clubs and counties to try and minimise the damage caused by this suspension of regular golf club life.

We will continue to signpost clubs and counties to the latest government advice and schemes designed to help the economy cope with the disruption caused by coronavirus.
