Mixed Fourball Open Results

60 teams entered the annual SRGC Mixed Fourball Open Stableford on Bank Holiday Monday. The cool weather was somewhat unseasonal but from comments received our course was in excellent condition thanks to the hard work of our small team of Greens staff led by Gareth Austin. Similarly thank you to Cris, Lis and their staff for their sterling efforts providing refreshments to many players before and after their rounds, to our Professional James Bennett for his staff’s support in supplying buggies and setting up the prize table and finally to Rod Rawson who many will know has been a stalwart of Stoke Rochford GC for many many years and I know will have done an excellent job welcoming everyone onto the 1st tee to ensure the pace of play was as consistent as possible.

Winning pairs :-

  • 1st place nett  :  Avis Griffin (SRGC) & Antony Dawson (SRGC)  44 points
  • 2nd place nett  :  Sue Booth (Royal Cromer GC) & John Booth (Royal Cromer GC)  43 points (back 9 c/b)
  • 3rd place nett  :  Hannah Thorold (SRGC) & James Footitt (SRGC)  43 points
  • 4th place nett  :  Lara Manton (SRGC) & Carl Manton (SRGC)  42 points

Bob Cullington Memorial Results

A strong breeze caused a few problems for players on Sunday and coupled with the very challenging meadow rough this resulted in a good number of NRs and relatively high scores. With just 1 Lady playing out of 85 entrants it's great to see Pauline Haggerty finished 3rd in Division #2 with a very creditable nett 70. The 1st reverted to it's usual position of most difficult hole averaging 5.69 with 13 being the easiest averaging 4.47.

Excellent result for SRGC Juniors

Our Juniors went to Woodhall Spa GC this week to represent Lincolnshire in the England Golf Junior Club Championships, a 36 hole event played over 2 days on the Bracken course with 2 scores from the team of 3 counting each day. SRGC & Lincolnshire were represented by Hattie Dow,  Josh Green & Matt Brewill.

Monday was practise day which went pretty well so we started the competition on Tuesday in a very positive frame of mind turning in a solid performance to finish in 15th place, with Josh leading the way with 34 points and both Hattie & Matt scoring 30 points for an aggregate team score of 64 points.

Knowing the course a little better on Wednesday and also knowing we could play better by focussing and eliminating silly mistakes Hattie & Josh improved their day 1 scores by margins of 6 & 5 shots with Josh being just 1 point less on day 2. Hattie scored 36 points, Matt 35 & Josh 33 for an aggregate score of 71 and a combined total of 135 meaning SRGC & Lincolnshire finished in 8th place overall

After the event had finished Harvey Harrison, the Lincolnshire President, spoke to Andrew Green who is our Junior Organiser, to congratulate the players and SRGC for their excellent golf over the 2 days, in which SRGC finished in the highest placing for the county for many years in this event.

WELL DONE  HATTIE,  JOSH &  MATT, you performed with great credit and SRGC is very proud of you.

Andrew Green Junior Organiser.

Pearce Pot Results

Vimal Patel led the way in the Pearce Pot with 41 points in pleasant conditions until a few showers later on, Leigh Shotliff winning Division #1 with 38 points. No surprises that hole #1 was the hardest on the day averaging 5.50, but unusually hole #8 was the easiest averaging 4.54.

Saturday Stableford Results

Sixty six entries for the Saturday Stableford with 4 players scoring 39 points fighting it out to be the overall winner. Ian Braime was one of those players with his excellent gross 66 not being quite good enough off +1 to beat Scott Cartwright from Division 2.
