Thistle Cup Results

The Thistle Cup is an Adult / Junior competition and was played in fine weather last Sunday, 6 pairs entered and some excellent scores were returned by all pairs, especially as some of the Juniors were playing in their first proper competition at SRGC.

Winning pair by just 1 point were Kaitlyn Van den Enden & Niall Doubleday, who finished very strongly with a 3 on 17 and then another 3 (for 4 points) on 18 to wrestle the trophy away from Josh & Gavin Green on 46 points, I believe Kaitlyn holed a 15 footer on 18 for the birdie!!

Scores :-

  • 1st place nett  :  Kaitlyn Van den Enden & Niall Doubleday  47 points
  • 2nd place nett  :  Josh & Gavin Green  46 points
  • 3rd place nett  :  Alfie & Simon Green  44 points
  • 4th place nett  :  Owen & Andrew Green  43 points
  • 5th place nett  :  Helena & Ben Murray  34 points
  • 6th place nett  :  Connie Murray & Avis Griffin  30 points

All players said how much they enjoyed the day afterwards and look forward to playing further competitions. Junior Organiser Andrew Green felt the day was so successful he's exploring the idea of running an Adult / Junior Open competition next summer to showcase the Club and perhaps strengthen the Junior Section as a result.

Seniors Salver & Extra Medal Results

The "old people" played in the Seniors Salver on Sunday while the "youngsters" played in the Extra medal, although the overall winner "on the day" can come from either competition as can the best gross, and the 2s are also distributed across the whole field, note that there were 5 2s in total across the whole field, each winning £13.20, not quite as shown in the graphic below.

Chris Jones Memorial Trophy 2021

Many thanks to everyone who played and supported the event this year in August, with your support and donations we are really delighted to announce that we raised £3500 during the day for the Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance.
In talking to the Charity last week, we were told that it costs that amount for just one call out of the ambulance, so our donation goes along way to saving lives.
This total takes the amount we have raised over the last nine years to over £30,000 to this very worthy cause.
Once again many thanks from the family for all your continued support

Wednesday 8th September - SRGC's "Women on Par" Taster Day

SRGC Ladies Section hosted a successful "Women on Par" taster session as an introduction to both golf and our club. Eleven ladies attended the event which saw them firstly being introduced to the team of Stoke Rochford ladies section representatives and Club Professional James, also giving them a chance to meet one another. There was a brief discussion pointing out some of the fundamental safety aspects regarding golf.

After being split into smaller groups of 2 or 3, they were given a brief introduction of the basics by James, followed by heading out onto to the course to play five specially designed holes with a scorecard of small challenges for them to complete (no actual shot counting cards).

The afternoon concluded with drinks, nibbles, chatting and laughter of adventures they had experienced on the course. As it was seen to be such an enjoyable & fun day it was requested by the ladies that attended if future events of a similar nature could be hosted, this will definitely be something for the club to look into.
