Temporary Local Rules in effect from Wednesday 1st July

Following R&A Guidance issued 29/06/2020, with effect from 01/07/2020 the following temporary local rules are in place :-

  • Flagsticks
    • A player may ask another player in the group to use a club (not gloved hands, towels etc) to centralise the flagstick in the hole whilst putting out
      • All players should continue to avoid touching the flagstick itself at all times by using the ball lifting devices
      • Please be careful not to damage the hole when using the ball lifting devices, some players have been seen to be rather aggressive in their extraction efforts, a gentle lift is all that is required
  • Bunkers
    • All bunkers remain in play, you may place within 6 inches not nearer the hole if you encounter a poor lie
  • Scorecards
    • Players must continue to mark their own scorecard to avoid exchanging cards
    • Minimum requirements to be entered on your card
      • Competition Name
      • Name of your marker verbally agreeing your score on each hole
      • Your Name
      • Date
      • Teeing Area used
      • Your gross score on each hole in Player A column
      • Your marker’s gross score on each hole in the marker column
        • This is mandatory and is required to allow cross checking of scores
    • Your signature
    • You may be disqualified if you submit an incomplete scorecard

All players are requested to use the HowDidIDo Mobile Score Input app to enter their scores as soon as possible after your round is complete. Please contact me if you have any difficulty in registering or using the app.

Sunday Medal Results

The Sunday Medal attracted 77 players, two of the very earliest out producing the best scores of the day in the less windy conditions, for the rest it was a real struggle. New member Jonny Cheeseman had the best nett score of the day with a 65 playing off 13, closely followed by Sam Marshall with 66 off the same handicap. Niall Doubleday collected 3 shares in the 2s club including an eagle 2 on the 11th. Massive thanks & credit to Gareth & his team for producing the course in such fabulous condition, if you see any of the team out there when you're playing why not go over and tell them yourselves!!

Winning scores :-

  • Overall winner  :  Jonny Cheeseman  78 - 13  =  65
  • Best gross  :  Niall Doubleday  72

    • 2nd place nett  :  Mark Bell  81 - 12  =  69

Saturday Medal Results

Poor weather conditions with rain earlier & high winds most of the day made scoring difficult for most in the Saturday Medal entered by 62 players. One player however found it rather easy, in his first ever competition since gaining an official competition handicap Richard Smith made light of the conditions by returning a nett 58 off his 30.0c handicap. Suffice to say he's playing off a significantly lower figure now. Shot of the day may well have been that of Steve Greenfield, holing his 2nd on the 4th for an eagle 2.

Winning scores :-

  • Overall winner  :  Richard Smith  88 - 30  =  58
  • Best gross  :  Ian Braime  73 (back 9 c/b)
  • Division #1 (33 players)
    • 1st place nett  :  James Scotney  77 - 10  =  67 (back 6 c/b)
    • 2nd place nett  :  Simon Mulvey  75 - 8  =  67
    • 3rd place nett  :  Ben Rawson 78 - 10  =  68
  • Division #2 (29 players)
    • 1st place nett  :  Richard Smith  88 - 30  =  58
    • 2nd Place nett  :  Matt Brewill  89 - 26  =  63
    • 3rd place nett  :  Ollie Brewill  78 - 14  =  64

The 2s club had 9 winners, but Steve Greenfield's eagle counts double so the pot is shared by 10.

Please don't forget to use the HowDidIDo MSI app to enter your scores. I am aware that some players don't have the correct technology available, also that some Members who's handicap is AWAY are unable to enter their scores, absolutley no problem with either of those groups, I will enter the scores on your behalf. That still leaves a few players who I believe should be able to use the app but are not bothering to do so, if that continues then I may exclude you from the competition, entry fees will not be refunded, no handicap adjustment will occur. If you are having any difficulty please contact me.

Weekend Medal Results (NQC)

Wth 106 players entering the Non Qualifying Medal played over either Saturday or Sunday there was a close finish at the very top of the leaderboard with Martin Harris just edging out Jeff Purdy as the overall winner on a back 9 countback. The course continues to play beautifully, the rain we had midweek just greening everything nicely and resulting in some difficult lies for those that missed the fairways.

The HowDidIDo Mobile Score Input app worked reaonably well, with 77% of players able to enter their scores remotely whilst the clubhouse PSI is out of action. The PSI will remain out of action even when the clubhouse opens in early July so I appeal to the small but significant number of players who perhaps haven't yet tried to use the app to do the necessary preparation and use it to save me having to enter scores on your behalf.

Winning scores :-

  • Overall winner  :  Martin Harris  78 - 13  =  65
  • Best gross  :  Jeff Purdy  70
  • Division #1 (49 players)
    • 1st place nett  :  Jeff Purdy  70 -5  =  65
    • 2nd place nett  :  Ben Rawson  78 - 10  =  68
    • 3rd place nett  :  Robbie Reynolds  76 - 7  =  69 (back 3 c/b)
  • Division #2 (57 players)
    • 1st place nett  :  Martin Harris  78 - 13  =  65
    • 2nd place nett  :  Adrian Stannard  84 - 18  =  66
    • 3rd place nett  :  Max Braime  84 - 16  =  68 (back 9 c/b)

As there are no Captain's Open Evenings organised yet due to the COVID-19 restrictions the vouchers have been paid directly into your competition wallets. The 2s club was shared by 10 players which has been paid into your competition wallets. I will notify all winners by email of the values of their prizes.

Next weekend sees the return of Gents Qualifying Competitions with a Medal on Saturday and a separate Medal on Sunday, you may of course enter both competitions. Players do not need a competition handicap to enter, although you cannot win a prize if you don't hold one, contact me or ask in the Pro Shop if you are unsure of your status.

There is also a QC on Tuesday, the first round of the shortened Tuesday Summer Series of Open Rollup Stablefords, £5 to enter as a Member, Voucher Prizes totalling £480 across the whole series, plus an additional Order of Merit Prize Voucher worth £175 for the winner.

Midweek Stableford Results

Fifty four players entered the Midweek Non Qualifying Stableford on Wednesday, set up at short notice as much to test out the availability & performance of the HowDidIDo Mobile Score Input app as it was to test you the players.

As already shared by email, the app worked well, let's hope it does this weekend when we have a Gents Non Qualifying Saturday-Sunday Medal. Don't forget to do your preparatory work and have HowDidIDo set up on your phone or on a device at home so you can enter your scores directly after you've played.

 Winning Scores :-

  • Overall Winner  :  Gary Broughton  43 points  playing off 23
  • Best Gross  :  Ian Braime  39 points
  • Divison #1 (10 players)
    • 1st place nett  :  Ian Braime  41 points  playing off 1
    • 2nd place nett  :  Stuart Addinall  39 points  playing off 12

    • 2nd place nett  :  Simon Hudson  40 points  playing off 18

The 2s club was entered by 53 players, with just 4 x 2s being recorded, each receiving £6.63 which has been paid into your competition wallet. Note that the entry fee & 2s club for this competition was 50% of normal levels, so prize values & 2s club shares are adjusted accordingly.

I will notify prize values & 2s club shares to winners by email.

If this weekend's Medal confirms successful usage of the HowDidIDo MSI app we will start Qualifying Competitions next week, so again (assuming the app works OK)  the onus is on YOU to help me by using it and ensuring your scores are entered as I don't have the time to enter scores for around 140 players if the field size is similar to last weekend.

Weekend Stableford Results

The first Gents competition since the restart of golf at SRGC got underway over the weekend with 142 entries in the Weekend Stableford (NQC), thank you to the many established and newer members for entering and, at least mostly, following the safety guidance that it's so important to adhere to. There were a couple of small infractions brought to my attention and therefore I remind you that  :-

  1. Our guidelines still state you should not arrive at the course until approx 20 mins before you are due to play, our target at busy times is to have 1 group on the 1st tee, 1 group around the putting green and practise net, 1 group outside the shop signing in before playing with only 1 player allowed inside the shop at any one time if you arrive early please wait in your vehicle
  2. The location of the box for completed scorecards will be moved to underneath the canopy near to the entrance to the Gents locker room, this will eliminate the need for members who have completed their round to go back to the Pro shop entrance and risk mingling with others waiting to move onto the course

Scorecards

  1. There were many scorecards returned that under normal competition conditions would  have meant disqualification, as we are all learning how the new guidelines can best be followed I will not actually disqualify anyone at this time but please take note for future reference :-
    1. Cards must be CLEARLY completed with
      1. Competition name
      2. Competition date
      3. Marker's name should be completed with the name of the person who is verifying your own score on each hole
      4. Player's name in Player A's box
      5. Player's handicap in Player A's box
      6. Tee boxes used
      7. Scores must be entered in Column A, not in the Marker column
      8. Use the Marker column to record the score of the person verbally verifying your score on each hole, this allows cross checking later
      9. At the end of the round the Player must verbally agree the total with his Marker and then the Player signs his own card, no other signature is required
    2. Please understand that I need to be able to read your scorecard to check it, the above details are mandatory to complete and to complete legibly, otherwise you face potential disqualification

The HowDidIDo Mobile Score Entry app did not work effectively, the cloud based service was down throughout most of the day and only available intermittently. Thank you to all that tried to use it on Sunday, generally you weren't doing anything wrong, it was just unavailable sadly. We desperately need this to improve in order to start Qualifying Competitions. We will try again on Wednesday with the Midweek Stableford (NQC) and probably on at least one day next weekend so watch the website diary for details, they may change at short notice.

Winning scores :-

  • Overall winner  :  Jack Rawson  44 points playing off 37 (back 9 c/b)
  • Best gross  :  Ian Braime  40 points
  • Division #1 (58 scores returned)
    • 1st place nett  :  Steve Cullington  44 points playing off 5
    • 2nd place nett  :  Ian Braime  41 points playing off 1
    • 3rd place nett  :  Craig Hallam  38 points playing off 4
  • Division #2 (75 scores returned)
    • 1st place nett  :  Jack Rawson  44 points playing off 37 (back 9 c/b)
    • 2nd place nett  :  Ollie Brewill  44 points playing off 16
    • 3rd place nett  :  Chris Cockerton  43 points playing off 21

I would normally insert a link here to the full scores listing, but as the scores have not been entered into the computer system this is not possible, sorry.

Prize vouchers are normally presented at the Captain's Open Evening, but while the clubhouse is closed and we are unable to do this these are being paid immediately into your competition wallets, I will email you separately with values.

The 2s club was entered by 139 players, 13 x 2s were recorded meaning £10.69 per share which has been paid into your competition wallets.
