An excellent day at the Gents Spring Open on Sunday 15th May enjoyed by the many visiting & home club players. The course was very fair with slightly lighter rough than usual given the lack of rainfall recently, with the fairways and greens being superb according to the many comments received on the day. The gusty winds and fast greens for the AM Singles made putting the "challenge of the day", perhaps the grass had grown a little by the time the players went out in the PM Greensomes as reports suggested things were slightly easier later.
Congratulations to Steve Cullington, long term SRGC member who just a few weeks ago retired from his role as Office Manager to concentrate on his golf, being rewarded yesterday with a gross 69 nett 65 score to win both the McCorquodale Cup & the Elms Cup for his efforts. Competition rules state that a player may win both trophies but may only win one prize voucher, this meant that Niall Doubleday (SRGC) with an excellent 69-2 = nett 67 score, was awarded the 1st place nett prize voucher.
In the PM Greensomes, SRGC Members Simon Mulvey & Peter Brewill both from SRGC returned an excellent nett 64 to win the Bursnall Cup, just beating Andy (SRGC) & Rory Croft (South Shields GC) on a back 9 countback.

Thanks go to the hardworking catering staff in the Clubhouse and at the Halfway House for their huge contribution to a memorable day, likewise to Gareth Austin and his very hardworking greens staff for producing a great quality course for all to enjoy, and finally to Rod Rawson our long serving starter on the 1st tee, the volunteer marshals and Pro Shop staff for their support.
We look forward to seeing many of you at future SRGC events.
