SRGC Juniors Success Again

On Sunday 24th July the SRGC Juniors played a home match in the 3rd round of the national knockout competition hosting Elsham GC. Conditions were tough with a strong breeze, fast running fairways, and slick greens with some challenging pin placements.

Format is 18 hole pairs better ball match play with 2 pairs representing the club. Each match is played over the full 18 holes and the result determined on the aggregate score across the 2 matches.

In Match 1 Stoke were represented by Hattie and Jake. A tough match ensued with Hattie giving her opponents 15 & 23 shots. After losing the first hole they fought back to lead 3up at the turn. Elsham used their shots well to bring the game back to all square with 2 holes remaining. Hattie's match play experience and Jake's bunker play combined to win the last 2 holes to secured a 2up final score.

In Match 2 the Stoke pair were Joshua and Jack who were also conceding shots to their opponents. They also lost the 1st but fought back, thanks in part to Jack holing a 30 footer on the 8th to cheers from the assembled spectators, to lead 2up at the turn. Some more excellent golf from the Stoke pair lead to a final score of 5up.

So a final result was an excellent 7up margin to SRGC. Very well done to the team, once again the club are very proud of you. The team now progress to the quarter final stage where we keep our fingers crossed for a home draw.
