Friday 5th April was the first of the new season of Captain's Open Evenings, hosted by your Club Captain Mr Simon Mulvey, supported by the Chairman Mr Adrian Stannard.
The major revamp of the format for these evening was evident as many Members & their Guests enjoyed a choice of Minced Beef Chilli, Lamb Jalfrezi and Chicken Korma, served with rice and mango chutney. After the meal, prizes were presented by Simon to winners of competitions held over the winter period. This was followed by Adrian and his special guest Grant Brown who entertainingly discussed his life as a professional footballer playing for clubs such as Leicester City & Lincoln City, making a club record 407 appearances for the Imps, scoring 15 goals as a defender. Grant is now the Academy Manager at FCV International Football Academy based in Stamford. His journey highlighted the major differences between the vast majority of professional sportsmen who are the core and foundation of any sport, and the elite players on your TV and in the tabloids, something we also see very clearly in golf. The evening finished with Roger Smith organising the Member Draw, "won" by Martin Gales who sadly for him was not in attendance, the raffle, and finally Open the Box, which failed to open, unlucky Norma.
We look forward to the next Captain's Open Evening on Friday May 3rd where we hope many of you will come along to support your Club, collect your prizes and have an enjoyable evening.
